Fraser Island – This UNESCO World Heritage Site is the world’s largest sand island and offers a unique opportunity to camp on the beach. Explore a variety of 4WD tracks, beautiful freshwater lakes like Lake McKenzie, and climb the impressive sand dunes like The Pinnacles.

Moreton Island – Moreton Island is another great option for beach camping. It’s known for its shipwrecks like the Tangalooma Wrecks, sand dunes like the giant sand mass called Desert Stradbroke, and clear waters perfect for snorkelling and diving. There are also a number of 4WD tracks on Moreton Island.

Stradbroke Island – North Stradbroke Island, or Straddie, is a popular destination for camping, fishing, and swimming. Explore sheltered beaches, stunning scenery, and hike through Point Lookout North Stradbroke Island Conservation Park. There are a number of 4WD tracks on North Stradbroke Island, making it a great place to explore.

Rainbow Beach – This world-famous beach with coloured sand cliffs is a popular destination for 4WD enthusiasts. You can camp nearby at Inskip Peninsula on the Great Sandy Strait. The area offers a peaceful camping experience with basic amenities and stunning scenery. For a touch of luxury, Rainbow Beach itself has a variety of resorts and holiday houses you can stay in. Be sure to check out Double Island Point and Teewah Beach while you’re in the area, both accessible by 4WD.

Cania Gorge National Park – Cania Gorge National Park is a great place to go camping if you’re looking for a scenic and relaxing experience. The park is home to Cania Gorge, a massive natural amphitheatre, as well as a variety of other natural wonders, including waterfalls, sandstone cliffs, and rainforests. There are a number of 4WD tracks in Cania Gorge National Park, suitable for drivers of all experience levels.

Carnarvon National Park – Carnarvon National Park is home to a variety of natural wonders, including sandstone cliffs like Carnarvon Gorge, deep gorges with waterfalls like Bool Bool Falls and Aboriginal rock art sites. There are a number of challenging 4WD tracks in Carnarvon National Park, making it a great place for experienced drivers.

Byfield National Park – Byfield National Park is a great place to go camping if you’re looking for a remote and peaceful experience. The park is home to a variety of natural wonders, including sandstone cliffs, gorges, and waterfalls. There are a number of 4WD tracks in Byfield National Park, but be aware that some of these tracks can be quite challenging.

Isla Gorge National Park – This national park is home to stunning sandstone gorges, crystal-clear swimming holes, and a rich variety of plant and animal life. The park has a few 4WD tracks that lead to some of its most secluded spots, but be aware that these tracks can be quite challenging.

Brigalow Belt National Park – This park protects pristine remnant brigalow vegetation and offers a unique opportunity to camp amidst this iconic landscape. The park has a variety of 4WD tracks that wind through the brigalow scrub, ironwood forests, and sandstone ranges. Be sure to keep an eye out for the park’s diverse wildlife, including koalas, kangaroos, and emus.

Lakefield National Park – Lakefield National Park is home to a variety of natural wonders, including rainforests, waterfalls like Elinjaa Falls, and lakes like Lakefield. There are a number of 4WD tracks in Lakefield National Park, making it a great place to explore for experienced drivers.

Cape York Peninsula – Cape York is the northernmost tip of mainland Australia and is known for its remote beauty, diverse landscapes, and indigenous culture. Explore the Jardine River National Park, the Bloomfield River with its cascading waterfalls, and the Tip of the Track, the northernmost point accessible by vehicle. Be aware that this is a very remote area and requires careful planning and preparation for a 4WD adventure.
